Installing IBM Lotus Domino Server v8.5.


Note: This whitepaper describes you how to install IBM Lotus Domino V8.5 on Windows Server 2003 R2 32bit.

Before moving forward make sure you have the following software available to you.
1.    IBM Lotus Domino Installation File. (lotus_domino85_w32_C1SP7EN.exe)
2.    IBM Lotus Domino Administration Client. lotus_notesdesigneradmin_w32_C1SQ5EN.exe
Follow the steps below.
1.    Configure your machine name and DNS prefix e.g postman.wwcorp.com
2.    Configure IP address as per your network requirement.  As for me I have configured 172.16.45.1 / 24.
3.    Before continuing make sure you have enough space on the partition where you are installing Lotus Domino Server and its data folder.

4.    Double click and run the software, extract files in a temporary location and click next.
5.    On the Welcome Screen Click Next.
6.    On End User Licenses agreement screen select I accept and click next.

7.    Select the path to install Lotus Domino Server and click next
Note:  Do not select partitioned servers unless you want to run multiple domino server instances on a single machine.  Domino partitioning provide multiple Domino Server instances on a single machine, by sharing the programs files (executables) and separating data directory and notes.ini file.

8.    Select the data directory and click next.
9.    Select the type of Lotus Domino Server you want to install and click next.

a.    Domino Utility Server: Provides a platform to run your domino applications only.
b.    Domino Messaging Server: Provides a platform to run Messaging Services only.
c.    Domino Enterprise Server: Provides both Messaging / Application Server Services.
d.    Customize domino Server: Use this option to select services as per your requirements.

10.    Check / Finalize the settings and click next to begin installation.

11.    In last just click finish on the [successfully installed] window.

Lets go through the server setup process now.

12.    Double click on the Lotus Domino Server Icon on the desktop.
13.    On the following screen select fonts or choose default and click next.

14.     Select [Set Up the first server or a standalone server] and click next.

15.    Write the name and title of the server.

16.    Give the name of organization e.g wwcorp and the password of the certifier.

17.    Enter the Domino Domain Name click next. (Domain Name is usually same as Organization Name).

18.    Give First Name, Last Name and Password. Also save a local copy of the id file at a secure place. Click next now.

19.    Select the services you want on your domino server, over here we have selected all services. E.g (HTTP, SMTP / POP and LDAP Service).
20.    Click on customize if you want to add more services.

21.    Click next or customize the hostname or protocols that are running in your environment.

22.    Click next on the following windows do not change anything. This prohibits anonymous access and add LocalDomainAdmins group to all databases and templates in the ACL’s.

23.    Review and finalize the settings on the below window and click on setup.

24.    Domain Server Setup is configuring all the server settings.

25.    Congratulations, Lotus Domino Server v8.5 is successfully installed.

26.    This is it, now you can use Lotus Domino Admin Client software to further configure your Domino Server. Use the admin.id file that you have saved in step 18. Cheers.
